There are lessons in every disaster. 

We humans are able to learn from things that do not play out we want them to go and prevent from making the same mistakes again.

Are we actually practising this enough? Probably not.

During our recent visit to the Azores we were notified of the fact that the artisanal longline fishery for kitefin sharks had some very visual remainders on the island.

In the latest Duiken magazine our article about Reunion and its Shark Crisis was published.

We visited the island in 2015 and experienced first hand both its raw beauty as well as its dark side; the present shark issue.

I am thrilled to share that another article was published recently in Duiken magazine.

The article focuses on our experiences while freediving with sharks around Bimini and why this place must be shark heaven on earth.

We enjoyed seeing that fear for these animals around the Bahamas has changed into fascination which in turn lead to the protection of these sharks.

As from last year I am exploring the Dutch coastline and waters some more.

Earlier this year we visited the dunes with Scottish Highland cattle, I caught a shark in last years SharkaTag event and I dove more frequently in the Dutch sea and estuaries (more about the latter coming soon..).

Blue sharks are in my honest opinion one of the most beautiful sharks in our seas. The blue shade on their backs and the slender elongated bodies are aesthetically perfect if you ask me.

It also makes them perfectly adapted to roaming the vast oceans, far out at sea in the blue.
