The Northsea is one of the most famous seas in the world, famed for it's rough nature, less so much for it's vibrant wildlife and especially not for it's marine life.
One of the reasons for this is that the Northsea is a very difficult place to work in, so there is less footage available.
Wind, waves, currents, bad visibility and virtually no operators to work with make it an incredibly difficult assignment to bring home worthwhile underwater footage.
Teaming up with Dutch Maritime Productions for their media project called "De Wilde Noordzee" or "Northsea Nature Untamed" between 2022 and 2024 resulted in a great adventure and results beyond expectation.
The cinema movie is released in the Netherlands first in September 2024 and later hopefully also beyond that.
We created a book with the movie that you can order via this link on my website.

Northsea Nature Untamed
While the Northsea is the biggest nature expanse in the Netherlands, very few actually get to see it underwater in real life.
Being part of this media project allowed for some incredible encounters which I never would have thought would be possible in the Northsea.
We documented the foodweb from plankton, to foundational fish species like sandeels, up to minke whales and giant basking sharks - and all of that in the Northsea.
The approach to shoot more of the ecosystem instead of singular species made for a very interesting approach to the project.
It required different skills in diving, from freediving to technical diving. From flying drones to operating telelenses and super macro shots to wide angle photography.
For this project we travelled throughout the UK, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
