Shutterstock recently asked me to put in a few words on underwater photography and creating images of sharks underwater.
It must be said that I have long felt that contributing to stock agencies has not been fulfilling enough in terms of promoting a conservation mindset through my imagery.
It misses the ability to share the story of the encounter and the conservation status of nature and misunderstood animals like sharks in particular.
Sharing my images via stock agencies would sometimes even feel counterproductive as these images can be used for anything; for all I know, even for promoting shark fin soup.
I was happily surprised with how this Shutterstock piece came out and that the editor even left the genuin answers on the ethical side of the photography in!
